These are 14 practical examples of frequently occurring cases with z/OS – PC file transfer. Prerequisite is IBM PC 3270 terminal emulator installed on PC/Windows with Telnet PC 3270 terminal session started and TCP/IP connection to Mainframe IBM z/OS.

          Case1. How to get JES2 job execution output data to PC/Microsoft folder from mainframe in character format (using GET function of FTP/PC and automatic logon to TSO ISPF with IP=10.212.4.90 from PC)

To use FTP z/OS program from PC to download from JES spool queue to PC do the following:
– Prepare ftp_90.bat at PC in d:\admin\VSE-to-ZOS\ftp with the following contents :
ftp -s:D:\admin\VSE-to-ZOS\ftp\ftp_90.txt>D:\admin\VSE-to-ZOS\ftp\ftpmch.err
– Prepare ftp_90.txt in d:\admin\VSE-to-ZOS\ftp with the following contents:

To use FTP z/OS program from Mainframe to transfer Print01 z/OS file data to PC (using PUT function of FTP in batch job) do the following:
– Create Print01 z/OS file ’print01.restroz’ from JES2 queue using print function:
– Signon in TSO ISPF – sd.st

– Receiving the same file print01.restroz from mainframe in binary format on PC as d:restroz2 – enter the following command:
receive d:restroz2 a: print01.restroz
(File d:restros2 is in binary EBCDIC HEX object format with block length 4096 on PC and can be opened with HexEdit/ EBCDIC of UltraEdit)
In Mainframe P.6 menue appears the line – IND$FILE GET PRINT01.RESTROZ

          Case4. How to send a file from PC to Print01 z/OS file data (in character or binary format) using Command Prompt Icon screen of WINDOWS and IND$FILE PUT TSO ISPF function with P.6 menue active in a: Telnet session

– Sending an ASCII character file d:restroz from PC folder to mainframe in format EBCDIC character (in Print01 z/OS file data as print01.restroz1):
1.Set Mainframe P.6 menue active in a: Telnet session of TSO ISPF z/OS.

d: ciftest file in binary format is sent to Mainframe as BCA1MGP.STEF.LOAD(CIFTEST) load library member in EBCDIC binary format. BCi05.lib.base.load(CIFTEST) load library member is identical with BCA1MGP.STEF.LOAD(CIFTEST) load library member in EBCDIC binary format.
The file d:ciftes11 previously received on PC in binary format from library member BCA1MGP.STEF.JCL2(CIFTESTO) is sent to library member BCA1MGP.STEF.JCL2(CIFTEST11) which includes JCL and object data in binary format of program CIFTEST that may be submitted for execution in Mainframe. This is a character file d:ciftes11 from PC that includes object/binary data (.ESD, .TXT) with fixed recl=80 that is sent to TSO ISPF z/OS source library as binary file.
Use Command Prompt Icon screen and enter next FTP commands:
Cd .. “” is the Working directory
Binary – Representation type is Image
Put BCA1MGP.STEF.JCL2(CIFTESTO) d: ciftes11 – port request OK. Transfer successfully.

          Case13. How to get full TSO ISPF z/OS source library from MF to PC using FTP TCP/IP sign on TSO in Command Prompt of WINDOWS and mget command

Use Command Prompt Icon screen and enter next FTP commands:
FTP 10.212.4.90 (FTP z/OS is issued from d: of Command Prompt Icon screen)
(If only FTP is entered then enter: open 10.212.4.90)
Bca1mgp – connected to 10.212.4.92 – send PW please
Yana4 – Bca1mgp is logged on. Working directory is “bca1mgp”
Pvd – Working directory is “bca1mgp”
Cd .. “” is the Working directory
Cd .. Directory is already NULL
Lcd – Local directory now: d:\
Ascii – Representation type is Ascii NonPrint
Prompt – prompt is off (no confirm Y is expected; switch on/off)
Cd bca1mgp.stef.jcl2 – The Working directory “bca1mgp.stef.jcl2” is a partition data set
Lcd d:\stef.jcl – Local directory now: d:\stef.jcl – necessary to be created!!!
Mget * – d:\stef.jcl\CIFTEST7 is received for member bca1mgp.stef.jcl2(CIFTEST7) – this format can be transferred OK to Mainframe!!!
All members from TSO ISPF z/OS source library bca1mgp.stef.jcl2 are transferred in 80 char records to PC d:\stef.jcl in text format and can be viewed with WordPad editor.
The same may be done with the following commands:

All members from d:\stef.jcl directory are transferred in 80 char records to TSO ISPF z/OS source library bca1mgp.stef.jcl8 in text format and can be viewed TSO ISPF editor.
d:\stef.jcl\BCA1MGP.STEF.JCL2(CIFTEST7) is not transferred to source library bca1mgp.stef.8 – this format may not to be transferred to Mainframe!!!
