1. The problem “No connection” Edit/View of TSO/ISPF library
One of ISPF’s “best kept secrets” in z/OS is the Work Station Agent (WSA for short). When you have not enough z/OS experience or you have by chance not properly operated with TSO/ISPF C/S WSA complicated functionality you may get into situation not able to do your everyday system work as result of some remained settings.
The following “No connection” problem may arise during or after finishing your client/server connection as follows.
If you are working in ISPF C/S WSA for file transfers between PC and Mainframe and when finally you exit from this connection with WSDISCON command in ISPF or stop wsa.exe application on PC, a nagging message in TSO ‘No Connection’ appears when you want to edit/view any member in edit /view mode of ISPF library.
If enter p.3.4 – browse(B) library dsn: BC2A.ZOS140.OPER.LIB and choose to edit/view member ALT07022, the following happens:
BROWSE BC2A.ZOS140.OPER.LIB
Name Prompt Size Created Changed ID
After command v/e is ented for ALT07022 member you receive:
BROWSE/EDIT BC2A.ZOS140.OPER.LIB No connection
V/E ALT07022 34 2005/09/12 2011/05/03 17:54:33 BCA1MGP
Pressing F1 displays the following message:
This action requires a connection with the workstation to be established. A
workstation connection can be established from ISPF Settings panel or enter
WSCON from any command line.
Following the advice of the above message you reestablish C/S wsa connection between Mainframe and PC (work station) and when you are trying again to edit/view any member of ISPF library, you will receive the following message:
EDIT BC2A.ZOS140.OPER.LIB WS command failed
Workstation command failed. Return code = 1.
Your collegua is still able to edit/vew any member in any library with his own login, bot not you! (After you Login with IBMUSER or login to another LPAR without WSA started/installed it is also OK for you to edit/vew a member of library). If you compare your WSCON settings and and these of your collegua they are exactly the same.
What to do?
