If you have Mainframe consoles as PC/3270 sessions on IBM/2074 with OS/2 System and some disaster happened (power off), all sessions go to “system” and are not working. At the same time all LPARs of Mainframe and TSO on user terminals are still working OK. Usually in such a case when you lose your consoles, the first reaction is to turn on the power and to do IPL of Mainframe.
But there is an easy way to repair (restore, resume) your mainframe consoles using console commands. Please follow the steps in order to achieve restoration of your lost consoles.
1. Fixing the problem
Master (x’d00′) and alternative (x’d01′) consoles of LPAR/BC2A at tcpip=10.212.4.90 are lost due to failure – also it is not possible to start TSO screen from IBM 2074 (they go to system).
The following message on d01 /alternative console/ appears:
198 I *IEE141A MASTER AND ALL ALTERNATES UNAVAILABLE, REASON=IOER
ISSUE VARY MSTCONS OR LOG ON TO A MASTER AUTHORITY SMCS
CONSOLE
This message can be viewed on TSO syslog (sd.log) from any of the still working TSO user terminals.
2. Comments/remark/notes about the problem
If you try to restart alternative (d01) console PC/3270 session, Communication Error 658 appears. To find the reason, go on screen to Help – Help contents – When you encounter a problem – Communication check – 658 reason is: Initializing the TCP connection for Telnet3270/3250 (3270 session) – connection is not successful and failed.
3. Steps to follow
First it is necessary to Stop all PC 3270 sessions on PC IBM 2074 – then set power off/on of IBM 2074 and reboot the OS/2 System as follows:
– Shutdown OS/2 of PC IBM 2074 – Press red button/icon – Stop OS/2 – answer Yes – YES – shutdown complete
– Switch off/on power of PC IBM 2074 (the PC that is on lower row of the frame in our machine room)
– Reboot OS/2 – starting – waiting – OK – automatic
– Start PC 3270 sessions – Start OS/2 – PC 3270 sessions: ZOS sessions: bc2ad00 for LPAR/bc2a, bc2ac00 for LPAR/bc3a, bc1be00 for LPAR/bc1b; VSE session: bc2aa00 for LPAR/bc4a; only the sessions started – ok – but not yet consoles restored.
– Verify LPAR/bc2a consoles status – should be online – no Error 658 appear on d00(master) and d01(alternative) sessions – they successfully started after reboot of IBM 2074 – OK – 3 rows appears
– Console commands for restore/resume lost consoles of LPAR/bc2a:
Sign on TSO at any PC 3270 screen of IBM 2074 – then go to sd.log.
– Enter /V D01,CONSOLE from sd.log of TSO. After restarting session d01(tcpip=10.212.4.99)-alternative console – (no 658 communication error – TCP initializing) – d01 become/switched to master console. The following messages appear:
